Curaçao kicked off their Nations League group stage with a commanding victory on Saturday evening. The national team defeated Nicaragua 6-1 in Willemstad to take the lead in Group A.

Dick Advocaat, who celebrated his 79th birthday during the match, saw his side take an early lead. Livano Comenencia opened the scoring after six minutes. Kenji Gorré doubled the advantage and Juninho Bacuna made it 3-0. Leandro Bacuna added a fourth and Gorré scored again before halftime for a 5-0 lead.

After the break, Jaime Moreno netted Nicaragua's sole consolation goal. Late in the game, debutant Kyano Penso made his entrance. The PSV youth player set up Jürgen Locadia twelve minutes from time, who fired in the sixth goal. "Curaçao trakteert jarige Advocaat (79) op zesklapper tegen Nicaragua," the head coach said afterwards.

The 6-1 win is the second-largest victory for Curaçao under Advocaat. The last meeting between those sides ended 1-1.
