Players from the Curaçao national team delivered strong performances for their clubs across Europe last week. The actions of Tahith Chong, Armando Obispo, Juninho Bacuna, and Ar'jany Martha stood out in the English, Dutch, and Turkish leagues.
Tahith Chong started for Sheffield United in the Championship on Saturday. The midfielder played 69 minutes in the 1-0 win against Wrexham. A day later, Armando Obispo was in action for PSV. The defender played the full match and provided an assist in the 7-0 victory over Willem II. Obispo's PSV currently sits second in the Eredivisie, three points behind the league leaders.
Juninho Bacuna faced a less favourable result. He started for Gaziantep FK in the Süper Lig and received a booking. His team lost 2-0 to Trabzonspor. The biggest individual contribution came from Ar'jany Martha. The Telstar forward scored once and made an assist in the 4-2 win against FC Utrecht. He was substituted after 77 minutes. Martha is currently his club's top scorer with eight goals.
These club performances come at a good time. The Curaçao national team is preparing for an important fixture. A home international against Panama is scheduled for Saturday 7 November. Squad selection is influenced by player availability; Curaçao currently has no reported suspended or injured internationals.
The past week demonstrated the depth of Curaçaoan talent. From the Premier League to the Dutch second tier, several internationals made their mark. The team will continue its preparation for the Panama fixture following a run of three wins and a draw in its last four official matches.
